About The Sci-Fi Fantasy Book Club

Because all the books this club reads must fall under the sci-fi or fantasy genres. If you know you love the genre why change a good thing?

Some of the genres you can expect to read in this club are

• High/Epic / Low Fantasy – Grand quests, magical worlds, ancient prophecies and world-changing battles to magical or supernatural elements in a mostly familiar world.
• Grimdark Fantasy – Morally grey characters, brutal worlds and gritty realism.
• Cozy Fantasy – Low-stakes adventures, found family, comfort and everyday magic.
• Urban Fantasy – Magic and supernatural beings hidden within modern cities.
• Fairytale/Mythology-Inspired Retellings – Reimagined fairytales, folklore and legends. Stories inspired by Greek, Norse, Egyptian or other mythologies.
• LitRPG – Stories incorporating video-game mechanics, stats, quests and levels.
• Space Opera – Epic interstellar adventures, galactic empires and sweeping conflicts.
• Dystopian / Utopian / Post-Apocalyptic Fiction – Oppressive societies, authoritarian regimes and bleak futures. Imagined ideal societies and attempts to create a better world. Life after civilisation collapses through disaster, war or catastrophe.

Anyone but this is an adult book club and adult themes will be discussed.

For all adult book clubs we say you must be over 16.  Please note adult themes may be discussed.

The membership is £5.00 per month.

We meet once a month at The Quill & Quiver shop. Please see the events page for specific dates and times.

Come along anyway, life happens, we don't hold it against anyone.

We want to make sure everyone enjoys what they are reading so the book group are consulted each month. There may be themes from time to time eg October may relate to Halloween in some way.

No thank you. For a lot of our attendees this is their hobby away from families, their little escape  and as such we ask that children remain at home. However please do look into our children specific book clubs.
