About The Crime & Thriller Book Club

About The Club

This book club is perfect for those who love Crime & Thriller books.  Whether you're a fan of John Grisham, Stephen King or  Harlan Coben then this is the club for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Because all the books this club reads must fall under either the crime and/or thriller genres. If you know you love the genre why change a good thing?

Some of the types of books read in this club are -

  • Psychological Thriller: Focuses on the mental and emotional states of characters,      creating tension through suspense and complex relationships.
  • Legal Thriller: Centres on the legal system, often involving courtroom drama, lawyers, or legal cases.
  • Spy Thriller: Revolves around espionage, secret agents, and      international intrigue.
  • Action Thriller: Features a fast-paced plot with high stakes, often involving chases, fights, and a focus on physical conflict.
  • Detective Fiction: A subgenre where a detective (professional or amateur)      investigates a crime, often a murder. This includes classic whodunits.
  • Cozy Mystery: A subgenre of mystery that typically takes place in a small, isolated setting with an amateur sleuth, and avoids explicit violence.
  • Police Procedural: Focuses on the day-to-day work of the police in solving a crime, often emphasizing realism.
  • Medical Thriller: Involves suspense and danger related to the medical field, such as in hospitals or research labs.
  • Supernatural Thriller: Incorporates supernatural or paranormal elements into      the thriller narrative.
  • Crime Thriller: Can be a broad category that synthesizes the crime and thriller genres, focusing on the action of a crime or apprehending a criminal rather than the mystery of who did it.
  • Mystery: Often puzzle-focused, with the central question being "who committed the      crime?" and a strong emphasis on clues and solving the puzzle.
  • Suspense: While often overlapping, suspense focuses on creating a feeling of anticipation and anxiety about what is going to happen next.

Anyone but this is an adult book club and adult themes will be discussed.

For all adult book clubs we say you must be over 16. Please note adult themes may be discussed.

The membership is £5.00 per month.

We meet once a month at The Quill & Quiver shop. Please see the events page for specific dates and times.

Come along anyway, life happens, we don't hold it against anyone.

We want to make sure everyone enjoys what they are reading so the book group are consulted each month but final decision is made by The Quill & Quiver. There may be themes from time to time eg October may relate to Halloween in some way.

No thank you. For a lot of our attendees this is their hobby away from families, their little escape as such we ask that children remain at home. However please do look into our children specific book clubs.
