Fan Fic Club
The important stuff, before we all lose the plot.
Welcome, degenerates, romantics, shippers, trope enthusiasts and people who said "I'll just read one chapter" and then it's 3am and the main characters just locked eyes across the room.
This is a space to share the brainrot, make friends and talk about your favourite fic.
Please see the Q&Q guidelines about the fan fic club and how to engage with fan fiction respectfully below.
OCTOBER'S FIC IS - Meet Me At Midnight by Forawhile
Click the button to book your space on the next club meet up.
The £5 fee is purely to cover the shop's opening and staffing costs for our meet-up.
It is NOT payment for fanfic. You are paying for the space, not the fic. The £5 does not buy you a fic.
Nobody is making money from the fanfiction.
FIC IS FREE, GUYS!
Fanfiction shared to the club's members is free.
It's a gift from the author.
You can download fic's from websites where authors have chosen to share it or electronically with other people provided no money changes hands for the fic itself.
Some authors are happy for their work to be bound.
Some will look at you like you've just suggested tattooing their AO3 username onto your forehead.
Check the author's wishes first. Always.
If they say no, the answer is no.
Anyone but this is an adult book club and adult themes will be discussed.
For all adult clubs we say you must be over 16. Please note adult themes may be discussed.
ALL THE FANDOMS. FOR NOW.
To start the group will be open to all fandoms.
As the group grows, we'll see what everyone is into and let the group's collective brainrot decide where we go next.
Today: one fandom.
Next month: another.
Eventually: someone will bring up a fandom nobody has thought about since 2007.
18+ ONLY
This is an 18+ group.
Expect mature themes, questionable fictional decision making and conversations that may occasionally require us to ask: "Wait... are we really discussing this in public?"
Trigger/content warnings are expected and should be respected.
DON'T YUCK SOMEONE'S YUM
This one is important. You don't have to like someone's ship. You don't have to read the fic. You don't have to understand why that particular character is apparently everyone's favourite disaster. But you do have to let other people enjoy things without shaming them.
The fanfic community is wonderfully weird, diverse and accepting.
No ship wars. No kink shaming. No character slander in someone's face. No "ew, why would anyone like that?" You can quietly think "not for me, thanks" and move on with your life.
We're all here because fictional people doing fictional things make our brains produce the happy chemicals.
Let's keep it fun. Let's keep it kind. Let's share the brainrot.
And for the love of AO3, don't forget to hydrate
Our club does not buy or sell fanfiction.
If someone offers you a fanfic as a fancy little printed book for £f£, don't assume that's legitimate.
Fanfiction can involve copyright and other rights belonging to the original creators, so selling it may require permissions that aren't there.
Basically:
Free fic? Lovely.
Gifted fic? Fabulous.
Someone trying to sell you their 200k word enemies to lovers for £35 or more?
Please don't put fanfic reviews on Goodreads or other book-reviewing platforms. It's a fic. It's not a traditionally published book. Authors may not want their work publicly reviewed. You are, of course, welcome to tell your mates: "OH MY GOD YOU NEED TO READ THIS." Just maybe don't give it a Goodreads rating or review.
We meet once a month at The Quill & Quiver shop. Please see the events page for specific dates and times.
Come along anyway, life happens, we don't hold it against anyone.
We want to make sure everyone enjoys what they are reading so the group are consulted each month however the final decision lies with The Quill & Quiver. There may be themes from time to time eg October may relate to Halloween in some way.
No thank you. For a lot of our attendees this is their hobby away from families, their little escape and as such we ask that children remain at home.
