The Romantasy Book Club

About The Club

The Corby Romantasy Book Club has been bringing readers together for several years and now proudly calls The Quill & Quiver home. The group focuses on books within the “Romantasy” genre — stories that blend romance and fantasy. Below you can find some of the books the group has read.

With over 400 members on Facebook, an active WhatsApp chat, and plenty of activities beyond reading, this is a vibrant and welcoming community. Members often meet up for afternoon tea, book festivals, author nights, shopping trips, and even held their own book retreat weekend. Plus an annual Christmas gathering complete with a book swap and games.

Frequently Asked Questions

Because all the books this club reads must fall under the romance and/or fantasy genres. If you know you love the genre why change a good thing?

Some of the genre specific books you can expect to read in this club are as follows, however, we will also read books that solely fall under either the romance or fantasy genre.

  • Epic high fantasy: A story with high stakes set in a complex, fictional world with extensive lore, where the romance unfolds over a multi-book series.
  • Fae romance: Focuses on immortal, otherworldly beings with intricate social politics, often exploring the dynamic between human and fae characters.
  • Dark romantasy: Features morally complex characters and intense themes, often with gothic or grimdark elements.
  • Cosy romantasy: A light-hearted, low-stakes story where the emphasis is on the emotional connection rather than a grand, world-ending conflict.
  • Paranormal: Includes popular supernatural creatures like vampires and werewolves, incorporating significant fantasy world-building into a central romantic plot.
  • Urban fantasy romance: Incorporates magical elements and supernatural creatures into a modern, urban setting.
  • Historical romantasy: Combines a historical setting with magical or mythological elements to add distinct conflict and atmosphere.
  • Monster romance: Focuses on a love story between a human and a non-human, often monstrous creature.
  • Dark academia fantasy romance: Set in a magical school or university, these stories blend intellectual pursuits with romantic tension, sometimes involving secret societies.
  • Military fantasy romance: Combines high-stakes military or war narratives with romantic plot lines.
  • Portal fantasy romance: Features a character traveling from the real world to a fantasy realm through a magical portal, where they find adventure and romance.

Anyone, but this is an adult book club and adult themes will be discussed - please see age guidelines below.

For all adult book clubs we say you must be over 16. Please note adult themes may be discussed.

The membership is £5.00 per month. The fee can be paid when you attend at the shop till.

We meet once a month at The Quill & Quiver shop. Please see the events page for specific dates and times.

Come along anyway, life happens, we don't hold it against anyone.

We want to make sure everyone enjoys what they are reading so the book club group is consulted each month but final book decision is made by the owner of The Quill & Quiver. There may be themes from time to time - e.g. October may relate to Halloween in some way.

No, thank you. For a lot of our attendees this is their hobby away from families, their little escape and as such we ask that children remain at home. However, please do look into our children specific book clubs.
